Dovetail Brewery

Visited with Kaila as part of a brewery tour of the area. This was our third stop. Prefacing my review with the fact that I am not a huge fan of the styles of beer they typically make: lagers. I had the Vienna Lager. Kaila had the Framboise. Hers was fantastic. Mine was below average. I didn't get much toasted malt character but some fruity esters that shouldn't be present in the style. There was some chill haze present as well. Just a miss on the beer but Kaila's experience brings the score up. Kaila and I were only there for a beer but it seems like as soon as we closed the tab, we didn't exist. We were looked over. No friendliness to the service prior to closing the tab either. Dismissive. Maybe it was our bartender on a bad day. But they only had one chance to impress and they swung and missed. The best thing about Dovetail is definitely the way the tasting room space is finished, the closeness without being claustrophobic, and the warmth that they have transformed the space into. They are in the same type of space that Begyle is in and they knocked it out of the park. Pricing is a bit better on the expensive side. $6.75 for .3L. That is about 10.2 ounces of subpar Vienna Lager. Also, don't be cute with the liter sizing, you are in Chicago. Accessibility is a tough one. They are deep in the north side of Chicago that, from where I live, doesn't have easy access from an expressway. Once in the neighborhood, no problem. I won't be back. Enjoy!
